Nuance and DATEV sign a licence agreement for Nuance’s OmniPage Capture SDK
DATEV is integrating Nuance’s OCR application in its DMS software
Munich, 5 September 2007 – Nuance Communications, Inc (Nasdaq: NUAN), a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions has announced the signature of a licence agreement with DATEV eG, a German association of tax consultants, auditors and lawyers based in Nuremberg. The licence agreement covers the integration of Nuance’s ScanSoft OmniPage® Capture SDK in DATEV’s DMS software.
DMS is DATEV’s document management solution, currently used by 39,000 members to provide support to some 2 million customers in the financial advice and financial services sectors.
The licence agreement covers the integration of Nuance’s OmniPage optical character recognition (OCR) solution and the document conversion application for Microsoft Windows, to support all the OCR features and functions of DATEV’s DMS software.
The tax consultants, auditors and lawyers who use DATEV’s DMS application can now reap the benefits of this integration in their daily work.
The advantages include:

- Powerful new OCR functions, such as Logical Form Recognition (LFR) and a Form Template Editor to simplify the development of form processing applications

Before selecting the OmniPage software, DATEV carried out extensive comparison tests using every available OCR SDK (Software Development Kits). DATEV’s selection criteria included the simplicity of integration in the existing DMS architecture, adaptability, performance as well as the accuracy of image and text capture and conversion.
OmniPage’s performance in DATEV’s comparison tests was 30 percent better than its competitors.
