Nuance Extends T9 Predictive Text Offering in Welsh

Nuance partners with leading Global Handset Manufacturer Samsung to Offer Industry’s most Pervasive Predictive Text Application in Welsh

London, UK – 3 December 2009 - Nuance Communications, Inc., today announced that it has extended its predictive text portfolio to include Nuance T9 Welsh on the Samsung SC500 device. T9 Welsh builds on Nuance’s unbeatable language portfolio – even in minority languages – making it the most pervasive application in the mobile market today.

The industry’s most trusted predictive text software will now enable Welsh consumers to unleash the full potential of their phones by maximising their messaging capabilities. Welsh speaking users of the Samsung SC500 will now be able to enjoy the benefits of predictive text in their native language, creating SMS messages much more quickly and easily than through traditional text entry. T9 Welsh shipping demonstrates Nuance’s commitment to preserving traditional regional languages, such as Catalan and Basque by making them more accessible to younger generations – who are often heavy text users.

Nuance’s language portfolio was extended as a result of a request by the Welsh Language Board after Nuance T9 recently picked up the Global Mobile Award at Mobile World Congress. The award recognised Nuance’s social and economic development initiatives, which combine technology and tradition to protect and encourage the use of a language which is core to a national identity.
