- Web Interface Provides Ease of Access
The PowerScribe Workstation's Web architecture fits well within today's IT requirements. Radiologists open a browser and connect to a Web server to access their unique user profiles and all speech recognition functionality. The user interface is clear and easy-to-use, presenting all essential information in understandable windows and tabs. PowerScribe Workstation also allows convenient connection from home or remote locations for dictating, review, and signing of reports.
- Information at a Glance
PowerScribe Workstation presents doctors with a comprehensive orders worklist of exams needing dictation when interfaced with a radiology information system. Selecting an order populates patient information on screen and attaches it to the dictated voice file, eliminating the need for manual or verbal entry of demographic data. Radiologists can also view a list of reports in their queue awaiting review with a simple tab click.
- Report Templates & Shortcuts Enhance Productivity
One of the PowerScribe Workstation system’s biggest dictation timesavers is the availability of standard text blocks (e.g., "normal chest") as well as specific report templates. These shortcuts can be created for individual radiologists or for group use. Users can even save recognized text on the fly as a standard text block via a simple "drag and drop" procedure. Shortcuts can be categorized, shared between users, and linked to specific procedure codes for maximum productivity.
Standard text is invoked through voice commands, while form fill-in capabilities are easily activated through simple microphone commands and voice input. No keyboarding involved! Also, all standard text blocks are fully voice editable, and additional dictation can be appended to standard text, so radiologists have complete flexibility, with maximum time-savings.
The combination of free-form speech recognition and the added flexibility of standard text shortcuts and templates turns radiologists into power dictators—the result is a significant reduction in doctor dictation time. Complete orders worklist displayed. Selecting an order displays relevant demographic data. The radiologist is ready to dictate.
- User Editing Choices
Nuance recognizes that despite extremely high speech recognition accuracy, some report editing is needed, and that users may also have personal preferences in how reports are processed for completion. PowerScribe Workstation editing tools have been designed for ease, speed, and choice. Two editing modes match user preferences:
- Real-Time Recognition with Self-Editing
PowerScribe Workstation is optimized for "once-and-done" real-time speech recognition, where the radiologist can view recognized text upon completion of dictation, and then select from two modes of editing as desired:
- Keyboard Editing
Using familiar mouse and word processor tools.
- Voice Editing
Using voice commands and microphone controls to correct and navigate the document. In this mode, changes and additions anywhere in the report can be spoken and immediately recognized. Most radiologists find this method to be comfortable and rapid, while offering maximum costs savings through transcription savings.
Users who prefer batch dictation of a series of reports can also utilize the methods described.
- Speech Recognition With Delegated Editing
PowerScribe Workstation does not force doctors to edit their own reports. Any recognized draft report can be automatically forwarded to a transcriptionist/editor for correcting and formatting. This option greatly reduces transcription time and costs since reports no longer have to be manually typed from scratch. Voice and recognized text are linked for added accuracy and increased editing efficiency.
